Training in China

Training in China gives a unique insight into Tai Chi Chuan. It offers the chance to meet with many Chinese students, some have trained in Tai Chi from an early age, some have taken it up in their retirement.
In China Tai Chi is a way of life. Your classmates are your family - your Tai Chi brothers and sisters. Tai Chi practice develops friendship and social life with like-minded people. Because in China, students practise every day together, they soon get to know each other very well.

Westerners training in China are warmly welcomed into this family. Opportunities arise to meet others who are "connected" by similar ideals, from other Martial Arts, from Traditional Chinese Medicine, Caligraphy and even from Chinese Opera! Training in China opens the door to a wealth of Chinese Culture.

Course material can be chosen to suit the best needs of the group, beginners, intermediate or advanced levels. The amount of time spent on training and also on sightseeing can be varied to meet the needs of those taking part in the course.

The British Chen Style Tai Chi College has now made five training visits to China. In 2001 we trained in Lianyungang with Master Liu Yong, before travelling on to Zhengzhou. There we joined the International Advanced Course with Grandmaster Chen Zheng Lei.

In 2002 it was the turn of our beginners to visit China. These students, with very little Tai Chi experience were able to review the first part of the form and then perform it in exhibitions in Ganyu, Lianyungang and Nantong. They even took part in a TV documentary about Tai Chi!

In December 2002 we returned for an Intensive training course, spending over 5 hours each day working on the New Frame (xin jia yi lu) and the New Frame Cannon Fist (xin jia er lu).

In 2003 we visited Shanghai, Nanjing, Lianyungang and Shandong, Mount Tai Shan. We met famous Painters, Calligraphers and Musicians.

In 2004 students trained daily at the Man Lian club, and still found time for sightseeing in Beijing and Xuzhou! We also met Beijing Opera stars, tried Brush painting and Calligraphy.

If you and your students would like to train in China, we can help to organise courses to meet your students requirements. You will be met at the airport and all accomodation, travel and meals will be arranged for you. Contact us for more information. Of course you are welcome to join us on our next training vist!
